In the morning, we visit the Saint Papoul Abbaye and its beautiful cloister. A guided tour that will give you a good overview of the history of this 9th century monastery. Discover 1200 years of history through the monks’ refectory, the cloister, the chapter house, the old cathedral with its baroque choir, its Romanesque chevet sculpted by the Master of Cabestany and its monumental tower-porch. Then we will head up to the “Canal du Midi Grand Bassin” and the St Roch lock in Castelnaudary, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Lunch in a restaurant where you will be able to eat the local typical dish, the best cassoulet in Castelnaudary (other choices possible).
In the afternoon, we will go to the Saint Ferreol lake to learn more about the fantastic history of the Canal du Midi (museum possible), and we will visit the small town of Revel with its beautifull medieval Beffroi. And we will finally finish the day by visiting a goat and cow chease farm !
