The Pont du Gard, a masterpiece of ancient architecture
A few kilometers from Nîmes, in the South East of France, is the famous Pont du Gard. World famous for being a masterpiece of ancient architecture, it is 275 meters long and 49 meters high. These extraordinary dimensions make it the largest aqueduct in the Roman world.
Built in the first century, it rises on 3 levels and was completed in only 5 years, which is a feat for the time. Full of history and the result of an extraordinary architecture, the Pont du Gard is one of the best preserved Roman vestiges in the world, which has earned it a place on the UNSECO list of World Heritage Sites.
